The following rules and regulations have been adopted and approved by the Cherry Valley Township Board hereinafter referred to as The Board for the orderly conduct of the business of the burial of human remains in said Cemetery.

OWNERSHIP OF CEMETERY

The Board retains to itself, for the benefit of all plot owners, full and complete and undisputed supervision, control and management of all land, improvements roads, development, books and records, and the full and complete authority, right and privileges to make change, administer and enforce all rules, regulations and restriction not inconsistent with the laws of the State wherein this cemetery is located.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

  1. The terms lot and plot are interchangeable.
  2. A full lot consists of eight (8) burial sites
  3. Lots are not sold, but burial rights are given to qualifying individuals for a fee.
  4. Certificates represent burial rights, not ownership of the lot.
  5. Owners of Certificates are known as “Lot Holders”.

DAILY HOURS AND CEMETERY GROUNDS

HOURS: The Cemetery is open daily from dawn to dusk. The grounds of the Cemetery are available for visitation by lot holders and families of persons buried in the Cemetery.  Please place all trash in available trash bins located at Cemetery entrance.

NOT PERMITTED: No coping, curbing, fencing, hedging, grave mounds, borders, or enclosures of any kind shall be allowed around any lot or ground space or marker and no walks of brick, chat, cinders, tile, stone, marble, terra-cotta, sand, cement, gravel or wood shall be allowed on any lot or thereabout.

FLOWERS AND SHRUBS: Artificial and live flowers as well as shrubs are permitted – it remains the responsibility of the lot holder to remove artificial flowers at appropriate times.  The Board reserves the right to remove any artificial plants or flowers after October 1st or is obstruction grounds keeping and maintenance.  The Board also reserves the right to remove any tree on the Cemetery grounds whether it is alive or dead, at its own expense.  However, certain lots may embrace a tree that may interfere with space that otherwise might be used for burial.  In such a case if a Lot Holder desires such removal, they may, with permission of The Board, have it removed by The Board providing they pay in advance for such removal.

MEMORIALS:  To preserve uniformity and landscaping The Board reserves to itself the right to prevent the placing or to remove any marker or other object which does not comply with the standards of the Board, or which The Board deems unsuitable or obstructive to the maintenance of the Cemetery.

CONDUCT OF PERSONS WITHIN THE CEMETERY:  Visitors are reminded that the Cemetery grounds are sacredly devoted to the interment of the deceased, and that a strict observance of the proprieties due such a place will be required.  Motor vehicles are only permitted on designated road ways and the removal of items from any lot, not belonging to the Lot Holder or Lot Holder’s family is expressly prohibited.  Alcoholic beverages and illegal substances are not permitted in the Cemetery at any time.

CHERRY VALLEY TOWNSHIP is NOT responsible for loss, theft or damage to any monument, marker, floral display, planting or other adornment located within the Cemetery, including those located within a tribute area.
